Further Information

A Commercial EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) is intended to inform potential buyers or tenants about the energy performance of a building, so that they consider energy efficiency as part of their decision on whether or not to buy or occupy a particular property. To that end, legislation states that a Commercial EPC is a requirement for all business premises in the UK and they must be in place before properties are placed on the market for sale or lease.

An EPC identifies the energy efficiency of a building based on the standardised way that the building is used. Carbon dioxide (CO2) ratings are shown in banding's from A to G, with A being the least polluting.  The main focus of the certificate is the amount of CO2 estimated to be released from the building. The performance of the building is benchmarked against current building standards and cost effective improvements are then identified in a recommendations report. The certificate must be fixed to the building and it is valid for a period of 10 years.
